My wife is running a copying and typing store as her part-time job. The store that was openned half a year ago is a partnership also owned by another partner. It is just in the course of being lucrative with some efforts. Unfortunately last Saturday, the store had suffered from the theft. A thief in the Friday evening bumping open the door stole a computer and some cash about 700 more RMB that was left in a drawer used as till money. The case was found in last Saturday morning. Before going to work (my wife should go to work on Saturday), my wife received a phone call from a teacher who might be the old customer of the store. He wanted to copy some examination script for today’s exam held in early morning. Because the clerk was a little later in the weekend than usual, the teacher therefore called my wife via the phone number left on the advertisement board for the convenience. When my wife went to the store in haste, she was surprised by the scene. The door was broken open. The thief had stolen something. After checking the store,it was found that one computer and some cash disappeared. Then my wife went to the security office in the campus ,claimed the case as well as the loss. Since it was Saturday,only one of the staff came to the store . He checked the spot and the video installed above the aisle. A suspect wearing a work clothes entered in the surveillance video. About 10~10:30 last night, the man appeared in the video several times, and at that time the store was closed. However, the video failed to photograph the scene in which the man took away the computer. Finally my wife filed a case report to the security office.
When my wife came back home, although I also felt depressed, we analysed the cause. One important factor was attributable to the negligence that they paid little attention to the security measure. A wooden door that only was installed a normal lock was very easy to be kicked open.Nonetheless it was not too late to install an anti-theft door, so the next day an anti-theft door was set up in the store.
In retrospect,we thought it was somewhat a little fortunate the thief only stole one of the computers and small cash worth 4000 more RMB. In fact if there was a large scale of crimes by a group of gangster, the store would suffer huge loss. Because there are facilities in the store such as high quality copy machine; fax device and binding machine etc, worth 100,000 RMB or so.
Some news was available today. The culprit who was just released from the jail only several months was caught last night when he perpetrated another crime in our unveristy. How fearless he was! In fact after stealing this store, he consecutively stole other office nearby which incured much more significant losses. His rampant behaviors have caused high attention of the security staff. Currently the thief didn’t admit the case related to the store. However there was also other source just now he has already admited his crime in the store. Whether the loss can be rolled back or reduced, we will wait the new progress.
