Sunday afternoon, my son, with my accompanying, took part in the grade examination for bamboo flute with a satisfactory result of excellence. About one week later, he will obtain the certificate of grade three for Chinese bamboo flute.
The date for this grade examination has been delayed several times. In February, we made the exam entry, however we were informed for certain of the scheduled day untill last week. For nearly three months of training and practice, the day finally came. My son and I arrived at the center 20 minutes earlier than the time informed by a female clerk who works in the training centre which is only several miles away from where we live. The center is a branch belonging to Wuhan Music Institute which holds some traning courses here concerning the dance, music, etc. and also holding the grade examination for the music and art amateurs. Although we arrived there very early, according to the order, we waited over two hours
After the exam time has been fixed, last week, I foucsed my attention on the preparation for my son’s grade examination. Although I was certain that my son could pass the exam and obtain the certificate, I was not sure what assessment the examiner would give as for his live performance. As I had a little worry about whether my son could display his normal ability; after all, my son tends to be shy, if he got nervous in the exam, he would not perform well. To my great relief, my son exerted almost his full abitilty during the course of examination. I could make certain he could attain a satisfatory result when I waited at the aisle where we parents could see the candidates through the door on which there is a rectangle glass window.
There were about 40 candidates attempting the grade examination, most of them are little girls who learn dance and only six years old or above. The youngest girl playing violin is less than five, and she passed the grade one. After she finished, I saw the recording sheet that the examiner gave her a satsifactory evaluation.
We had an engagement with my son prior to the examination, if he passed exam and otained the grade of excellence, he could earn the money 50 yuan. After finishing the examination, my son of course was the most elated!
