Last Sunday, I accompanied my son as usual to the music training center to have a lesson given by his bamboo flute teacher. The center has changed the teacher a month ago due to the former teacher who left Wuhan and wants to develop his career elsewhere outside Hubei province. The former teacher is from Shangdong province and graduated from Wuhan music institute. After graduation, he was employed by an art school. As he considered the school did not treat him well, or he could not obtain the salary as his desire, he left the school. Of course this was told by the staff of the training center. In fact I only know a little about the former teacher. He had taught my son for almost one year. As for his teaching method and performance, I think it could be valuated in a middle level. Of course, currently, it is not easy to find a good teacher who is engaging in teaching bamboo flute. However, when comparing with the newly employed teacher, he is superior.

The new teacher has come to the center in later July, but he returned his hometown for half a month. Further more, my son had a small operation in the early Augest and need rest, so in this summer vacation, my son only attended few class. It was not like last summer, just in the beginning of when he learnt the bamboo flute, my son and I went to the class twice a week, practising intensively.

So far the new teacher has given lesson to my son less than four. I don¡¯t satisfy his teaching method. And I guess his playing level is not high enough to be called a qualified professional. It is said he graduated in Music College of Huazhoong Normal University. According to the staff of music training center, his employment was recommended by the former teacher. It is also said he is the schoolmate of the former teacher. I doubt how they could be schoolmates. The former teacher comes from Shangdong province and studied in Wuhan Music Institute, whereas he is from Hunan province and studied in Huazhong Normal University. It is the fact that we could not know fully about the background of the teachers who are employed by the social training agent.

It is worth metioning that I have learnt a new technique of playing bamboo flute from the new teacher while accopanying my son, although the former teacher had metioned this before. But I could not understand clearly then as my son has not yet reached the stage of playing that type of music which needs this technique. Now my son uses a longer bamboo flute, ie, D tune flute, as reqiured by his current teacher. By using this flute, he could play the music with a little different style than before, thus this new type of technique is employed. No doubt, I grip the core soon.

Now I am still in the stage of considering whether the teacher could meet my expectation. I should make a decision in the next class whether my son should find a better teacher who could improve my son¡¯s playing ability considerably.
