After summoning all the newly enrolled students across the different provinces, the university kicked off the military training at the campus this morning. The regular slogan penetrated in my ears through the window this early morning when I still laid on bed. It has been the routine for many years that all the new students should accept the military training lasting for over half a month, with an aim to promote and enhance the ability to obey the schooling regulation and adapt the new environment that might differ so much from their previous high school life.
When upon hearing the voice from the students, it reminds me of my schooling life when as a university student twenty years ago. How fast the time flies away in a flash! When I was enrolled as a college student, the requirement that all the students should accept the military training was just in the track of second year, thus we students then were honored to receive the rigorous training. Afterwards it has been a mandatory imperative for the colleges across China.
As for the effects on the students and the meanings to their university life, I always hold my doubt. However it really pads the extra memory to the students
During the course of military training, we as the staff living and working in the campus, could see the students who wear the military uniform everywhere, particular when in the time of going back home, you would stand by or follow the procession slowly when they are advancing ahead with a long line.
Usually, at the end of the training, the university will hold an inspection exercise attended by the university leader. Some excellent groups undergoing the strict practice will be selected and honored to appear at the playground. It is the high time for the leaders to unfold their power and dignity.
As the freshman, military training is the first leg of their campus life. There is still a long way for them to go; however, the university life is ralatively simple and peaceful as opposed to that of the society, a ruthless social furnace.
